Colonel Jon K. Lowrey

Colonel Jon K. Lowrey graduated from the
University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, AL and was commissioned through the U.S.
Marine Corps’ Platoon Leaders Class program as a Second Lieutenant in August
1985. After completing The Basic School in Quantico, VA, he attended the U.S.
Army Field Artillery Basic Officer Course in Fort Sill, OK, where he was
recognized as the Distinguished Graduate and Master Gunner. He was then
assigned to 1st Battalion, 11th Marine Artillery Regiment in Camp Pendleton, CA
where he served as a Fire Direction Officer, Platoon Commander, Executive
Officer, and Battery Commander. During this assignment, he deployed to the
Western Pacific with 11th MEU in 1988 as a Howitzer Platoon Commander, and then
again with 13th MEU in 1990 as the Battery Commander; a deployment
that encompassed the Western Pacific, Indian Ocean, and the Persian Gulf during
Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm.
In 1991, he was assigned as a Battery Inspector-Instructor for Battery P, 5th
Battalion, 14th Marine Artillery Regiment in Denver, CO. In 1993, he
was selected to attend the U.S. Marine Corps’ Amphibious Warfare School in
Quantico, VA. Upon graduation, he was nominated and selected for assignment as
the Commanding Officer of the Marine Security Company at the Presidential
Retreat, Camp David where he served from 1994 to 1996. Upon promotion to Major,
he was assigned to Marine Barracks, Washington, DC where he served as the Operations
Officer for the Marine Corps Institute, and as a Parade Commander for 8th
and I’s Friday Evening and Tuesday Sunset Parades from 1997 to 1998.
In 1998, he was selected to attend the U.S. Army Command and General Staff
College in Fort Leavenworth, KS. Upon graduation in 1999, he was subsequently
selected to attend the U.S. Marine Corps’ School of Advanced Warfighting (SAW)
in Quantico, VA.
Upon graduation from SAW in 2000, he was assigned to III Marine Expeditionary
Force in Okinawa, JA where he served as a G-3 Future Operations Planner. In
July 2002, he was assigned to the 12th Marine Artillery Regiment in
Okinawa, JA where he served as the Regimental Operations Officer. In 2003, he
was selected for battalion command as the Inspector-Instructor, 4th
Battalion, 14th Marine Artillery Regiment in Birmingham, AL. In 2004, his artillery battalion was
mobilized as a provisional security battalion and he deployed to Al Anbar, Iraq
where he served with I Marine Expeditionary Force as a G-3 Future Operations planner
during the U.S. Marine Corps’ Operations in Al-Najaf and Fallujah, Iraq.
In 2005, he was selected to attend the Air War College in Montgomery, AL. Upon
graduation, he was assigned to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO)
Headquarters in Brussels, Belgium where he served on the International Military
Staff, G-3 Operations Division, Exercise and Training Branch from 2006 to 2008.
In 2009, Colonel Lowrey was assigned to the U.S. Military Delegation to NATO
where he served as the United States’ Joint Staff Land Planner to NATO. In
2010, he was assigned to Marine Forces Pacific in Honolulu, HI where he served
as the G-3/5 Branch Head, Regional Operations and Plans, G-3 Operations
Division, and the Assistant Chief of Staff, G-5 Plans and Policy and
International Affairs Division. In 2012, Colonel Lowrey was assigned to Marine
Forces Europe as the Assistant Chief of Staff G-3 Operations and G-5 Plans.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Alabama, a Master of
Administration Degree from Central Michigan University, and a Master of
Strategic Studies Degree from the Air War College. His personal decorations
include The Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Navy Marine Corps
Meritorious Service Medal with two gold stars, Navy Marine Corps Commendation
Medal with three gold stars, and the Combat Action Ribbon. He is married to the
former Lynn Logan and they have one daughter (Lillian).
