Major General Daniel Shipley
U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Europe and Africa

Major General Shipley became the 8th Commander of U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Europe and Africa in 2025. 

 

Headquartered in Stuttgart, Germany, he commands designated Marine Corps forces assigned or attached to U.S. European Command and U.S. Africa Command; advises both joint-service geographic combatant commanders, and other component commanders, on the capabilities and proper employment of U.S. Marine Corps forces; conducts planning in support of operations, exercises, and theater engagements; validates and facilitates the deployment, sustainment, and redeployment of all designated forces; and sets conditions through naval integration to rapidly establish the Joint Force Maritime Component Command during crisis or contingency in order to accomplish assigned missions and tasks.

Major General Daniel Shipley graduated from the Virginia Military Institute and was commissioned in 1992. He was designated a Naval Aviator and completed training in the F/A-18Hornet in 1996.

Major General Shipley has served in several F/A-18 squadrons to include: VMFA(AW) 332 during Operation ALLIED FORCE while deployed to Hungary, VMFA 323 aboard USS CONSTELLATION (CV 64) during Operation IRAQI FREEDOM; the U.S. Navy Flight Demonstration Team (Blue Angels) and VMFA(AW) 225. He commanded VMFA 232 during Operation ENDURING FREEDOM 10.2 in 2010 while deployed to Kandahar, Afghanistan. He also commanded Marine Aircraft Group 12 (MAG 12) in Iwakuni, Japan.

His staff billets include the Tactical Air (TACAIR) Plans Officer in the Aviation Department, Headquarters Marine Corps (HQMC), Aide-de-Camp for the Commanding General of Marine Corps Combat Development Command, Deputy Director for Program Analysis and Evaluation in the Programs and Resources Department, HQMC, Director for Manpower Plans and Policy at Manpower and Reserve Affairs, HQMC, Assistant Deputy Commandant for Programs, Programs and Resources Department, HQMC, and Deputy Commander, U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Pacific.

His joint assignments include service in the Joint Staff Strategic Plans Directorate (J5), the Joint Strike Fighter Program Office, and as Deputy Director for Operations in the Joint Staff Operations Directorate (J3).

Major General Shipley is a graduate of the Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course, the Marine Division Tactics Course, Marine Corps Command and Staff College, and the National War College. He holds a M.S. in National Security Strategy from National Defense University.

Major General Shipley currently serves as the Commander, U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Europe and Africa.
