The Marines and Sailors of scout platoon, Headquarters and Service Company, 1st Tank Battalion, participated in a combat marksmanship exercise with Romanian Marines and soldiers at Babadag Training Area, Romania, May 21.

The exercise focused on improving combat marksmanship techniques and stances, and allowed both U.S. and Romanian forces the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the M-4 and AK-74 rifles.

Since arriving at Babadag, the Marines and Sailors have worked closely with the Romanians in sharpening their nonlethal and martial arts skills, convoy operations, patrolling techniques and an array of other tactics, techniques and procedures.

The Marines and Sailors of 1st Tank Bn., are currently deployed as Black Sea Rotational Force 2010, the first Security Cooperation Marine Air-Ground Task Force in the Black Sea, Caucasus and Balkan regions. The battalion is training with and advising partner militaries in techniques on how to provide humanitarian support, while promoting regional stability and conducting other theater security cooperation activities.

The Romanians completed two weeks of peacekeeping operations training in a ceremony, May 28, but scout platoon’s work at Babadag will continue, as Macedonian forces are slated to arrive for training May 31.
