Lance Cpl. Antonio Ramirez assists Lance Cpl. Keith Bohannon, in calling in precision naval gunfire during Exercise Joint Warrior 13.1 in Cape Wrath, Scotland, April 19. Joint Warrior 13.1 or JW 13.1, is an enduring NATO exercise supported by the ANGLICO community to facilitate joint collective training and pre-deployment training for UK, NATO and Allied units and their staffs in preparation for employment as part of a Combined Joint Task Force. The exercise featured 60 separate naval units, operating at points around the coast of Scotland, April 15-25. “Joint Warrior is conducted in the spring and autumn of each year and provides training for all three UK armed services as well as visiting units from allied nations,” said James Krajicek, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Europe, planning and assessments officer. “The seas and skies around Orkney played host to elements of the largest tactically focused military exercise in Europe.” Countries taking part in the maritime part of the exercise included the United Kingdom, Belgium, Germany, Holland, France, Norway, Denmark, Canada and Sweden. Ramirez and Bohannon are both forward observers with 2nd ANGLICO Co., 2nd Marine Division, out of Camp Lejeune, N.C.
