Air Force announces design awards

Air Force officials recently announced the winners of the 2004 Air Force Design Awards Program and the 2004 Air Force Agent Awards.

Awards will be presented to winners at a July 29 luncheon here.

Winners for the 2004 Air Force Design Awards are:

-- Honor Award, Planning Studies and Design Guides: Architectural Compatibility Guide at Incirlik Air Base, Turkey, and the general plan at Langley Air Force Base, Va.

-- Honor Award, Concept Design: Systems Acquisition Management Support Facility at Los Angeles AFB, Calif.

-- Honor Award, Interior Design: National Air Intelligence Center renovation at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio

-- Honor Award, Facility Design: Department of Defense Dependents School at Aviano AB, Italy, and the fitness facility at Little Rock AFB, Ark.

-- Merit Award, Planning Studies and Design Guides: Facilities excellence plan at Peterson AFB, Colo., and Charleston 2020 at Charleston AFB, S.C.

-- Merit Award, Concept Design: Education center at Little Rock AFB, and the mission planning center at the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo.

-- Merit Award, Interior Design: Dining hall at Charleston AFB; the U.S. Air Forces in Europe headquarters tunner addition at Ramstein AB, Germany; the Aloha Center at Hickam AFB, Hawaii; and the general services complex, Phase I, at Grissom Air Reserve Base, Ind.

-- Citation Award, Planning Studies and Design Guides: Aviano Design Guide at Aviano AB; Warm Weather Gates Design Study, Air Mobility Command at Scott AFB, Ill.; and survival school 10-year master plan at Fairchild AFB, Wash.

-- Citation Award, Concept Design: Consolidated support facility at Edwards AFB, Calif.; the acquisition management facility renovation at Hanscom AFB, Mass.; and the replacement family housing at Mountain Home AFB, Idaho.

-- Citation Award, Interior Design: Air Force Research Laboratory teleconference facility at Wright-Patterson AFB; the U.S. Air Force Museum Cold War Gallery addition at Wright-Patterson AFB; and the lodging facility at Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station, N.Y.

-- Citation Award, Landscape Design: Linear Airpark and Memorial at Dyess AFB, Texas.

-- Citation Award, Facility Design: Wind Farm I and II at Ascension Army Airfield in the South Atlantic.

Winners for the 2004 Air Force District, Division, or Host Nation Agent of the Year Awards are:

-- Design Category: Tulsa District, Army Corps of Engineers.

-- Construction Category: Far East District, Army Corps of Engineers.

-- Design Through Construction Category: Engineering Field Activity West, Naval Facilities Engineering Command.

Winners for the 2004 Air Force Civilian Project Manager of the Year Awards are:

-- Design Category: James Kendall from Norfolk District, Army Corps of Engineers.

-- Construction Category: James Richie from Southern Division, Naval Facilities Engineering Command.

-- Design Through Construction Category: Stella Marco from New York District, Army Corps of Engineers.

Winners for the 2004 Air Force Design Excellence Awards are:

-- Civilian Category: Robert Van Vonderen from Patrick AFB, Fla.

-- Military Category: Lt. Col. Michael Rits from Hickam AFB.
