Sergeant Major, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Europe & Africa

Sergeant Major Frye enlisted in the Marine Corps in July 1989 and completed recruit training at Parris Island, South Carolina. Following recruit training Lance Corporal Frye attended the Basic Field Artilleryman Course at Fort Sill, Oklahoma where he graduated as a 0811.

In May 1990, Lance Corporal Frye reported to Hotel Battery, 3rd Battalion, 14th Marines, where he served as a M198 Howitzer Crewman. During this tour he participated in Operations Desert Shield/Storm with the 11th Marines.  In August 1991, Lance Corporal Frye was transferred to Echo Battery, 2nd Battalion, 10th Marines where throughout this tour he served as a Howitzer Crewman, Section Chief, Guns Platoon Sergeant, and Forward Observer (2/2).  Lance Corporal Frye was promoted up to the rank of Sergeant and participated in deployments to the Far East, Norway, Mediterranean, and Operation Continue Hope in Somalia with BLT 1/8. 

In December 1994, Sergeant Frye was assigned to Golf Battery, 2nd Battalion, 10th Marines where he served as a Local Security Chief, and Forward Observer with BLT 2/6.  While deployed with 2/6, Sergeant Frye participated in contingency operations in support of the former Yugoslavia.  In May 1996, Sergeant Frye was transferred to Bravo Battery, 1st Battalion, 12th Marines. During this tour he participated in a Far East Deployment to Okinawa and mainland Japan. Sergeant Frye was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant during this tour in Hawaii.

In September 1998, Staff Sergeant Frye reported to Drill Instructor School at Parris Island, South Carolina. Upon graduation, Staff Sergeant Frye was assigned to the 1st Recruit Training Battalion.  There he served as an Alpha Company Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor, Series GySgt, and the Battalion’s Drill Master.  SSgt Frye was selected and meritoriously promoted to Gunnery Sergeant during this tour.  In November 2001, Gunnery Sergeant Frye was transferred to Golf Battery, 2nd Battalion, 10th Marines where he served as the Battery Gunnery Sergeant. During this tour he deployed to the Mediterranean, and participated in combat operations in Tarin Kowt, Afghanistan with BLT 1/6.  In October 2004, Gunnery Sergeant Frye was assigned to Headquarters Battery, 10th Marine Regiment where he served as the Battery Gunnery Sergeant and First Sergeant.

In January 2005, Gunnery Sergeant Frye was promoted to the rank of First Sergeant and was transferred to Weapons Company, 1st Battalion, 6th Marines. During this tour he participated in combat operations in Fallujah, Iraq with RCT-8.  In January 2006, First Sergeant Frye was transferred to the Chemical Biological Incident Response Force in Indian Head, Maryland.  Throughout his tour he served as the 1stSgt for React Company, Alpha Company, Headquarters and Service Company, and as the Battalion Sergeant Major.  Upon completion of this tour he was promoted to his present rank.

In May 2009, Sergeant Major Frye was transferred to the 2nd Marine Division to assume the duties as the Sergeant Major of the 2nd Battalion, 6th Marines.  During this tour he participated in two combat deployments with RCT-1 and RCT-5 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.  In February 2013, SgtMaj Frye was transferred to the Marine Corps Security Forces Regiment in Yorktown, Virginia to assume the duties as the Regimental Sergeant Major.

Sergeant Major Frye’s personal decorations include the Bronze Star Medal with combat distinguishing device and two gold stars in lieu of third award, Meritorious Service Medal with gold star in lieu of 2nd award, Navy and Marine Commendation Medal with combat distinguishing device, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with four gold stars in lieu of fifth award, Combat Action Ribbon one gold star in lieu of second award.
